Kalinga was the capital region at the time of maurya dynasty. Now Kalinga is the Indian state Odisha. It was founded at the time of Nanda Dynasty and it was the main gateway for east Asian trades. That's why the Kalinga war was happened in between the Nanda and Mauryans.

Kalinga, was an ancient territorial subdivision of east-central India. Kalinga is a historical region in India. It was founded by the founder of Nanda dynasty, Mahapadma of Magadha. It was the most important Kingdom as it controlled the trade routes of south-east Asia. In around 261BC, Ashoka, The king of Mauryan Dynasty won Kalinga with the help of their huge army. The Kalinga kingdom was spread on south East central areas of India. Kalinga is now called Odisha state of India.
