The mixture of two or more solid substances which liquefy due to its lower melting point than room temperature.

Eutectic Mixture

When two more substances are mixed together, they liquefy due to the formation of a new compound which has a lower melting point than room temperature. This type of mixture is called a eutectic mixture and substances are called eutectic substances. 

Examples of Eutectic substances : menthol, thymol, camphor, phenol, salol, asprin, phenacetin, chloral hydrate etc.


Dispensing :
1. These substances can be dispensed as separate set of powders  to avoid forming a eutectic mixture. 
2. An equal amount of an inert absorbent like magnesium carbonate, kaolin, starch, calcium phosphate etc. May be mixed with the eutectic substance.
