UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in India
What is a World Heritage Site?
A World Heritage Site is a place or landmark having a special cultural, historical, scientific, or another form of significance. It may be a building, a city, a forest, an island, a lake, a monument, or a mountain. These sites are judged to contain “cultural and natural” heritage around the world.
World heritage sites are inducted by United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
This site is maintained by the international World Heritage Program administered by the UNESCO World heritage committee which is composed of 21 “states parties” that are elected by their General Assembly.
