History of Mahakaleshwar Ujjain Temple

Ujjain is an ancient and historical city that is 5000 years old. It is described as the best city in Adi Brahma Puran and it is called mokshda and bhukti-mukti in AgniPuran and Garuda Puran. There was a time when this city had been a capital of a big empire.

Geographical Features of Ujjain

Ujjain Temple is situated on the beautiful bank of Kshipra river and on the plateau of Malwa. Ujjain is situated at the height of 491.74 above sea level and at 23.11 longitude north and 75.50 East latitude. Ujjain has a fine moderate temperature and therefore the climate is found pleasant here generally.

Bhasm Arti

Bhasm Arti is also named as Mangala Aarti. On the day of Maha Shivratri , Baba Mahakal is decorated like a groom. The Bhasma Aarti, which takes place once in a year, also takes place on the second day of Maha Shivratri, in which a large number of devotees participate

The temple has been built in Maratha, Bhumija and Chalukya architectural styles.

Ujjain Mahakal Corridor

Mahakaleshwar Temple corridor development project worth ₹856 crore. The project, after completion, will become one of the largest corridors in the country.  The more than 900-meter-long project spreads around the old Rudrasagar Lake.

Ujjain Mahakal Corridor Inaugration

The Inaugration of the corridor has been done by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 October 2022.
