Experts from the Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) profession have welcomed the recent amendment to Pharmacy Practice Amendment Regulation by the Central government for creating clinical pharmacists post altogether the govt hospitals across the country.
According to Dr. Katam Sai Kumar, president of the Doctor of Pharmacy Association, the amendment to the Pharmacy Practice Regulation was long pending. However, though late, the central government has taken the proper decision and provided justice to lakhs of pharmacy and doctor of pharmacy professionals to urge their right to employment as clinical pharmacists.
“We are seeing thousands of adverse drug reaction cases per annum. With no proper clinical pharmacists, these cases have gone unreported and lots of patients are falling victims to improper dosage of the medicines prescribed by the doctors. However, with the central government bringing out amendments and regulations called Pharmacy Practice Amendment Regulation 2021, the long pending demands of the pharma professionals since 2015 have been fulfilled, and that we thank the Central government for permanently initiatives favoring the pharmacy professionals.
This amendment speaks volumes because it benefits lakhs of pharmacy professionals to urge employment as clinical pharmacists in government hospitals.
We are urging the central and state governments to right away create clinical pharmacy departments altogether healthcare set-ups in order that the medication, dosage, antibiotic use, and adverse effects of medicines might be monitored,” noted Dr Kumar.
Another pharma expert Sanjay Reddy, a member of Telangana Pharmacy Council, also welcomed the new pharmacy regulation amendment and said that it gives more scope for the pharmacy and doctor of pharmacy professionals to realize employment within the government healthcare found out.
“We welcome the Central government’s move to bring new amendments within the Pharmacy Practice Regulation, which provides more scope for pharma professionals to require up their careers in clinical pharmacy and drug control administration departments within the government set sector.
The struggle by pharmacy professionals had eventually achieved success,” observed Reddy. Explaining further Reddy said that the creation of clinical pharmacy departments within the government hospitals and public sector establishments, it'll enable the patients to administer proper dosage of medicines and if just in case there are any adverse drug reactions it'll help the authorities to intervene immediately and save them.
“There are a record number of medical errors and injuries happening in India. As per an estimate, quite 5 million people are getting victims of medication errors and adverse drug reactions in India. Now by establishing clinical pharmacy departments, it'll help detect and manage adverse drug reactions and assist physicians in personalizing the drug dosage to the patients supported their medical condition,” opined Dr. Kumar, pertaining to the importance of the role of clinical pharmacists.
